THe Story of the Gutke's
The story of the Gutke's on my side and back as such is one that is more complicated than that of the Baute's The ancestors of my dad lived in various different places. In addition to this there story is a more militant one. Ancestors from his side have participated in the American Revolution, War of 1812, Civil War, WW1,WW2, and Vietnam Wars.
The first Gutke per say arrived from Germany in the year of 1845. Her name was Marie Damme and she was 76 when she arrived in New Orleans from her home country of Germany. She was later followed over by her son Johann and his wife Caroline along with their daughter Wilhelmina Damme. She then married Maximilian Urban a German who was born in 1832. These two then had Mary who married the first of three Gutke's named Charles. Charles and Mary then had a son whom they named Harry. Harry married Pearl Bibb. She was born and lived as well as died in what is now St. Louis from 1886-1954. Her parents were also both from St.Louis Missouri there names were George and Minnie.
Harry and Pearl who loved in Illinois the birth place of Harry and later their son( my great-grandfather) Charles Gutke. Charles later married a woman named Dorothy(1912-1985.) These two had my grandfather Charles Junior who was born and raised in Illinois. He has held a plethora of jobs from Marine helicopter pilot to salesman to Cobra restorer(http://www.cobrarestorers.com/). He was later the last in my family to participate in a war( Vietnam) as a helicopter engineer. During his life he married my grandmother and then my step grandmother(or Nain Welsh for grandmother.) She was born in Powder Springs Georgia to Joan Sosby and Harold Green. Two Welsh immigrants.
Charles Gutke Jr. married my grandmother first though her name is Julie and she is a surgical nurse. Together these two had my dad, aunt, and uncle. Her mom was Lois Lunsford and her dad Earl Thomson.
Firstly her fathers side. He was the son of William Thomson and Edna Keeler. Both of his parents parents were farming families back 2 generation until his family is traced to the Thomson clan of Scotland. This is one of the oldest and most common clan names. It is descended from John Thomson of Ayrshire in 1318 who led Edward Bruce's invading army to Ireland on behalf of Robert the Bruce. In fact one of the men on the Mayflower was a Thomson.
Lois was the daughter of the Lunsford and Watson families. Mabel her mother was the son of two middle class citizens named Samuel Watson and Sarah Ross. Her father was Chester Lunsford the fifth male Lunsford on her branch born in America. His great(7x)grandfather lived and died in Germany his name was William. his son also William moved to America at an old age. The Lunsford's are the militants of the group without a doubt. Andrew his Great-grandfather was the son of a war veteran who fought actively and lived in both the Revolution and in the War of 1812. He was also a veteran himself as he fought on the Confederate's side in the Civil War. Chester's mother's side on the other hand also had some war experience as well. Her name was Minerva Roberts and her father(William Roberts) fought in the War of 1812. as did his grandfather who fought in the Revolution.
